The Mae Bag.
It began with a special piece of leather brought to us by the customer: a small, bright blue alligator skin. The commission was for an evening bag, but given the size of the skin, and the fact there was only one, we needed to think outside of the box to create something both beautiful and functional.
Puzzle pieces.
To make the most of this small skin, we divided it into triangular panels, which we paired with contrasting gussets in black lamb.
Prototyping.
You can’t rely on luck when you are dealing with a one-of-a-kind material. This prototype was made with chévre, and allowed us to make final adjustments to the pattern. It led to the choice of soft-temper lamb for the gussets.
